The Greens stepped up their calls for more investment in public infrastructure at level crossings today in Glenroy by launching their "Just Fix It!" billboard at the notorious Glenroy rail crossing just metres from Premier John Brumby's office.
"This nightmare is located just metres from Brumby's own electoral office. It is ranked by the RACV as one of the most congested and dangerous in the state - yet nothing is being done to fix it. It is clear that the ALP government is taking this safe seat for granted," stated Greens Moreland City Council candidate Robert Humphreys.
"The Moreland City Council recently released a draft of the Glenroy Structure Plan that includes putting the crossing underground. This would increase public safety and revitalise the retail precinct which is currently cut in two by the track."
"Despite strong and vocal support from local residents, traders and shoppers, no progress by the government is in sight. Unless the Brumby government gets on board with the Structure Plan it is meaningless."
"The Moreland City Council is dominated by Labor and will not confront Brumby with the community's concerns. The Greens are prepared to take it all the way - no more excuses, just fix it!"
