The Moreland Greens have released their Policy Statement for 2008-2012.
The Greens, in partnership with the community, will work to make Moreland an ecologically sustainable municipality.
For the term of the next Council (2008-2012), an ecologically sustainable municipality is only possible if urgent attention is given to addressing the implications of climate change and peak oil, and our main focus will be on implementing appropriate actions and strategies at the local level to achieve this.
The Greens will also continue to work towards ensuring appropriate policies and actions are implemented on water and energy conservation, landscaping and open space management, waste reduction and sustainable transport.
The Greens have been represented on Moreland City Council since 2002. During this six and half year period, the Greens Councillors have brought knowledge and skill to Council in the areas of land use planning and transport, economic development, social policy, housing, public administration and environment. For the 2008-2012 Council term, six candidates are contesting the election – two in each ward. For the first time all Moreland residents can vote Green.
